How to Link D365 F&O and D365 CE Environments: Step-By-Step Guide

Many times, a customer is already live on D365 CE and implementing F&O/SCM. In today’s configuration steps blog, I am going to show how to link a newly created Tier2 or Production FO environment with an existing D365 CE/dataverse environment. At the time of writing this blog, the LCS is still around and the steps will be different when LCS is retired.
Pre-Req: You must be an environment admin on both CE and FO environments. In many cases, there is a service admin account which manages by the customer itself. If that is the case, then schedule a call with Customer IT admin and walk them through the steps.
In LCS Project page, go into the F&O environment page which you need to link with existing CE environment.
Click setup button under “Power platform…”
Now enable this checkbox “Use a different power platform”

Now provide the Power platform/CE/Dataverse environment ID in the box here.
Cautionary Note: The linking of two environments can’t be rolled back so make sure your provide the right environment ID here

Then click the last checkbox and hit setup. Now provide your name to sign in and click ‘Confirm’.

The environment will start linking and providing. Please note that the Tier2+ or Production environment will be down for about 20-30 minutes. Therefore, do this configuration only when the users are not using the system and they are aware of the downtime.
